As Christians, we all recognize that our best chance of living a “successful” life is by allowing God to work through us.
Whether we consciously know it or not, we all crave to be instruments in God's greater mission for the world.
I always wondered how much my secret life of porn and living in sexual sin hindered that... my mission on this earth.
Those who frequently view pornography are more likely to suffer from lower self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. These mental health issues can lead to several severe problems at work, such as decreased productivity, absenteeism, and even job loss.
So, I want to give you 2 examples, from (1) my personal experience and (2) the Biblical explanation.
Hi, my name is Mason Cain and I'm the Founder of Unchained Leader. I started Unchained Leader first as a desperate attempt to right my life and start walking in truth (turns out there's thousands of others out there just like me who need help too!)
During my darkest times, I made a well above-average income while living a double life with a secret sexual addiction. From the outside, I looked like I had it all together.
But in reality, internally I was in sheer chaos; anxiety, depression... I was drowning.
And my finances were high but also extremely unstable. (A direct reflection of my internal environment: Coincidence?)
When I finally broke free, the first thing I experienced was internal steadfast peace for the first time I can remember.
I started watching porn at 10 years old so I didn't remember life without it.
My income also drastically increased and became consistent for the first time in my life... Coincidence? Maybe.
True success (both external and internal) is only found by God working through us.
Let's consider these verses:
Isaiah 59:2 - "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear."
The consequence of human wrongdoing is a spiritual separation from God, making communication and communion with Him impossible. Sin creates a barrier between humanity and the divine, hindering the relationship between individuals and God.
And when we are separated from God, from where can we draw our strength, peace, and courage?
Without God working through us, we start working from our own strength and will, and the cycle of resist-fail begins.
Proverbs 28:13 - "Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy."
Attempting to hide one's sins leads to negative consequences, both external and internal, while admitting them and seeking forgiveness brings mercy and reconciliation.
Genuine repentance and acknowledgment of wrongdoing are essential for spiritual growth and restoration of relationships with both God and others.
Psalm 66:18 - "If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened."
Harboring sin in one's heart (secrets) obstructs communication with God. Genuine desire for a relationship with Him requires a commitment to righteousness and purity of heart.
Hebrews 12:1 - "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us."
We are encouraged to draw inspiration from the faithful (our witnesses) who we come across in our life. We are called to cast aside anything that impedes spiritual progress, especially sin, and to persistently pursue the journey of faith with endurance and determination, following the path that God has set before us.
The Christian life as a metaphorical race, requiring perseverance and focus among life's challenges and distractions.
Sin separates us from God working through us and hinders us in so many ways...
Here's the problem... "We know that..." And we know that trading our "potential" for "pleasure" is a bad trade...
So why isn't knowing that enough to get us to quit???
Because this is much deeper than most people realize.
There are deeper root issues creating your experience of controlling urges...
The only way to freedom is discovering and addressing your deeper root issues.
