I looked like I had it all together on the outside.

Privately, I was trapped in a cycle of pornography and unwanted sexual behavior I couldn’t shake.No one knew. Not my wife. Not my pastor. Not my closest friends.

I was first exposed when I was 10 years old. For the next 17 years, shame convinced me that if anyone ever found out, my whole life would collapse. So I kept it underground.

I tried everything within reach. Counseling. Therapy. Internet blockers. Accountability apps. Reading my Bible. Praying harder. Buying psychology books. Confessing every fall and promising “never again.” Each new strategy came with hope. Each one ended with me right back in the same place.

The hardest part wasn’t the behavior. It was the double life. Knowing the man on the outside didn’t match the man on the inside.

I hit rock bottom right at the edge of my marriage. In that moment something inside me finally broke open. I started taking radical action to find out what was actually creating the cycle in the first place, not just managing the surface.

“…be transformed by renewing your mind.” Romans 12:2

What I learned changed everything for me, and now for the men I serve.

The unwanted behavior was never the real problem. It was a symptom. A protector my mind built to numb pain I didn’t know how to process. The real problem was a hidden root narrative that had been quietly running my life since long before I had words for it.

God wasn’t asking me to try harder at behavior modification. He was after my heart, the place where the behavior was actually being born.

I stopped putting band-aids on the symptom. I started doing the deeper work of identifying and rewriting the root narrative driving everything underneath.

That work is what saved my marriage. It’s what saved my life.
